........................During the British rule the Oriya’s were ruled over by the various kings of various states. At that time the Oriya community stood divided and scattered. During this crucial period he took the responsibility of the throne of Paralakhemundi. He arranged the 10th Utkal Sammilani at Paralakhemundi. He was a active member of this Sammilani and has also made financial contributions for the same. He had presented his views before many committees and commissions to create states according to languages. He also had participated in the “Round Table Conference” held in 1931 and 1933 and placed the demand for independent orissa state.
........................Orissa got the status of a separate state in the year 1936. After One year on 1937 he became the first Prime Minister of Orissa. After three and half months he resigned from his post because of the changes in the then political scenario. Again for the second time he became the Chief Minister of Orissa on 1941 November 24th. He ruled Orissa till 1944. During this period he has carried out many projects for the development of Orissa. Due to his endeavours the Utkal University and the Medical College was established in the year 1943 and 1944 respectively. Its his efforts that resulted in the Orissa High Court, the Agricultural Research Centre, Paralakhemundi Railway Platform extensions etc. He has also promoted education, cultural and agricultural development in Orissa.
He was very generous. He adored the Oriya literature and the artworks of Orissa. He has funded the Satyabadi Vidyalaya and the Utkal Sahitya Samaj. Because of his interests in agriculture, the British Government nominated him to the Agriculture Commission as a member.
The Orissa state and the Oriya Community will remember him forever.
