.........JAJPUR:Former Finance minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei has sought the intervention of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in expediting the much-delayed four-laning work of Chandikhole-Duburi-Talcher section of National Highway-200.
In a letter to Gadkari, Ghadei said though the 133-km long widening project was awarded to ISOLUX Corsan, a foreign construction company, by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the firm has not started the upgradation work. Instead, it has damaged the existing two-lane road.
As a result, commuters are facing hardship due to the poor condition of the road. Accidents are a regular affair on this road, the letter stated.
“In a bid to strengthen the economic map of Odisha, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had approved the proposal to develop Chandikhole-Duburi-Talcher Section of NH-200 three years back. The Government has sanctioned `969.63 crore to upgrade this NH stretch from two to four lanes,” Ghadei stated in his letter.
While upgradation work is yet to start, ISOLUX Corsan has destroyed the existing road causing inconvenience to commuters, he said. Due to delay in commencement of work, the road condition is rapidly deteriorating amid increased traffic flow, the letter said.
Ghadei sought immediate intervention of Gadkari to expedite the work on this project which connects Chandikhole in Jajpur and Kanaktora in Jharsuguda passing through Dhenkanal and Angul districts.
This NH section also passes through Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex which houses nine steel plants, including the public sector unit Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL).
The BJD leader further urged the Transport Ministry to take immediate steps to repair an old bridge over the Brahmani river on NH-200 at Kabatabandha in Jajpur. The bridge is in a precarious condition with several cracks appearing on it, he added.
