.........BHUBANESWAR:Focus on India-2 and India-3. This is Google’s South-East Asia and India vice-president Rajan Anandan’s success mantra for start-ups and entrepreneurs.Interacting with an elite gathering of 500 start-ups, entrepreneurs and policy makers hosted by MSME Department here on Wednesday, Anandan said most of the start-ups in India are targeting India-1, the first 100 million Internet users.
For any enterprise to succeed, it is vital to target India-2 and India-3, he said. India-2, in Anandan’s words, is 100-300 million Internet users while India-3 will be 300-650 million Internet users.
‘’India is now at an interesting curve where number of users of Internet is growing exponentially. From 400 million users today, the number is likely to reach 650 million mark by 2020,’’ he said and added that Google’s mission is to provide Internet access to every Indian for which the tech giant has undertaken a flurry of initiatives.
A top angel investor himself, Anandan said key digital trends will influence markets in future as e-commerce buyers would grow from 60 million to 175 million buyers by 2020 while accounting for 25 per cent of the organised retail sales. This will propel the e-commerce market size to $200 billion.
He said digital payment market is also at a point of inflection with half of all consumer payment transactions likely to go non-cash by 2023.
Anandan lauded the ‘Start-up Odisha’ initiative of the State Government and said creation of a vibrant ecosystem comprising educational facilities, funding ecosystem that encourages local HNI’s to become Angel investors and access to mentors will be key to Odisha’s goal to be a major start-up hub. He emphasised on the need to celebrate successful Odia entrepreneurs which will motivate others.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, MSME Department LN Gupta said technology provides wings for positive change. Anandan is an inspiration for innovators, Gupta said and hoped that start-ups and entrepreneurs will benefit from the interaction.
Later, Anandan also delivered the 9th Odisha Knowledhe Hub lecture at the State Secretariat which was attended by Chief Secretary AP Padhy, Chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority Subroto Bagchi and Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan among others.
