Six mishap black spots identified in Nayagarh

.........NAYAGARH:IN a bid to check road mishaps, the Regional Transport Office has identified six black spots on State highways and one on NH-57 passing through the district.The black spots are Komanda, Odagaon, Sarankul, Kalyanpur, Nayagarh town and Nayagarh-Khandapada road on State highways and Sanpada area on NH-57. During the road safety committee meeting here, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) S Panigrahi informed that frequent accidents occur in Sanpada area due to bad road engineering and suggested erection of road signages on both sides of the approach roads.Collector Arindam Dakua, who chaired the meeting, instructed the department concerned to look into the matter and take remedial measures in all accident-prone areas. Members of the road safety panel said as the number of vehicles, particularly two wheelers, is increasing by the day in Nayagarh town, minor accidents have become a regular affair.They demanded setting up of parking zones to ease traffic congestion and removal of vegetable godowns near Nayagarh Chowk to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the road. The SP assured to provide police assistance to check the menace. The RTO also stressed on recognising the services rendered by people who help accident victims by taking them to hospitals. These Good Samaritans should be awarded so that more people will come forward to help victims of road mishaps, he said. Road safety meet in Angul Angul: The district administration has initiated several measures to curb road accidents and bring down the fatalities. At the road safety committee meeting here on Thursday, it was decided to undertake regular repair of all the potholes while rumblers will be erected at the vulnerable points across the district. The Regional Transport Office will also take steps to curb reckless driving in the district. Collector Anil Kumar Samal, who chaired the meeting, ordered seizure of vehicles from drivers who fail to produce valid driving licences. Samal also asked the two RTOs to intimate him about the factors that lead to frequent accidents at particular spots.
