The rainfall recorded in the district has been just above normal in June and July while it was less than normal in August only to be compensated till now in September, thus helping the standing paddy crop to attain required height and growth. In July, the district received 449 mm rainfall against normal rainfall of 447.7 mm.However, there was a marginal drop in the amount of rainfall in August with the district receiving 385.77 mm against the normal rainfall of 443.4 mm. Although there was deficit rainfall of 12.99 per cent in August, the rain was enough to maintain moisture in the soil. But rain lashed Deogarh district in September making up for the loss as it received 197.20 mm rainfall till Tuesday against the normal rainfall of 228.2 mm. Reports said that the district has set a target to cultivate paddy over 34,500 hectares of which broadcasting was undertaken on 22,634 hectares while transplantation was done on 11,864 hectares. Sources said both intercultural operations (Beusan) and transplantation over the targeted land has been completed by August end as per schedule and the farmers can look forward to a good crop considering the rainfall.
