.........BHUBANESWAR: Two sets of proposers in favour of Rahul Gandhi as Congress president will be submitted by president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Prasad Harichandan to the Central Election Authority (CEA) of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) at New Delhi on Monday.
Gandhi is likely to the file his nomination papers for the post of Congress president on Monday. OPCC prepared two sets of proposers at a meeting of senior leaders at the Congress Bhavan here on Sunday. Besides Harichandan, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Narasingh Mishra, several former presidents of the OPCC, former ministers and senior leaders have signed as proposers.
AICC secretary in-charge of Odisha Subhankar Sarkar and additional election officer for Odisha Jayshankar Pathak were also present.
A unanimous resolution was passed at the meeting of newly elected members of the OPCC on October 11 supporting the election of Gandhi as the Congress president.
Large scale changes are expected in the Congress organisation of Odisha after Gandhi takes over as the party president.
Organisational restructuring of the State unit is pending for several months since the party’s debacle in the panchayat polls in February, 2017.
