.........BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to tap the tourism potential of the State, a national level conclave will be held in the City on June 17. The conclave will be used as a platform to showcase tourist circuits, art and crafts, handlooms and the rich heritage of Odisha.
Delegates from different walks of life ranging from tour operators, hoteliers, bureaucrats, media personnel and members of commerce and industry association will participate in the conclave which aims to provide a holistic approach to rediscover the growth of tourism and hospitality sector of the State.
The organisers of the event, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO), will document the issues highlighted and recommendations made by stakeholders of travel industry and submit it to the State Government.
HRAO Chairman JK Mohanty said there will be six sessions at the conclave which will follow panel discussions. Air connectivity, branding, promoting Odisha on social media and infrastructure will be key areas of focus.
‘’We aim at converting tourism into a decisive contributor to the State’s GDP which is why the conclave has been christened ‘Tourism to be the Driving Force of Future Economy’,’’ Mohanty said.
The HRAO targets to add 5000 hotel rooms in a period of five years which will create a direct and indirect employment for 50,000 individuals in Odisha.
HRAO members informed that the 33rd annual convention of Indian Association of Tour Operators will be held in the City from September 7 to 10. Another event, Odisha Travel Bazaar has also been scheduled in October.
