UP police suspends 100 cops, PM asks MPs to toe the line

.........LUCKNOW/NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday suspended over 100 policemen just days after the new government led by Yogi Adityanath assumed office. Most of the suspensions were in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Noida. In Lucknow, seven inspectors have been suspended. The crackdown followed directives issued by DGP Javeed Ahmed a few days back. PRO of UP Police, Rahul Srivastava, said, “More than 100 policemen, mostly constables, have been suspended as per the directives of the DGP to identify the black sheep and take exemplary action against them.” Meanwhile, continuing his surprise visit spree, Yogi Adityanath on Thursday paid a visit to the Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow to check general preparedness and said rule of law would be established in the State. “I have come here to inspect how the rule of law is enforced in the State and gauge the morale of the police, and see what effective action can be taken in this regard,” the chief minister told the media. “The rule of law will be established in the State and the government will not hesitate in taking whatever steps are required for peoples’ welfare,” he said. Yogi Adityanath also enquired about the working of the police force from the officials present there and inspected the crime branch and cyber cell of the State police. Cautioning that it was not his last inspection, Yogi said an improvement will be seen at all levels. In New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked BJP MPs in Uttar Pradesh to not interfere in the administration of the new government, during a meeting with them at his residence on Thursday morning. While the meeting was apparently convened so that the Prime Minister could thank the MPs for their “hard work” in helping the party win the elections, sources said Modi cautioned them not to interfere in the administration. “The Prime Minister said that the MPs should not demand transfer and posting of officials with the new chief minister in UP. There is a new government in the State after the BJP came to power after a gap of 15 years. The Prime Minister noted that the efficiency of the administration was blunted during the Samajwadi Party government because of the excessive interference by the party leaders. The BJP MPs should not commit similar mistakes,” said a BJP MP from UP after the meeting. The Prime Minister praised all the MPs for their role in ensuring the victory of the BJP candidates in their respective constituencies in the Assembly elections, said another BJP MP. Incidentally, Modi is also a BJP MP from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. “The Prime Minister said there is a massive challenge ahead for the Yogi Adityanath government. The MPs should help in coordinating efforts to reach the benefits of various schemes and programmes of the State and Central governments,” sources said.
